Revolutionizing Calendars: Katsumi Tamura's Park Calendar 2016

Transforming Spaces and Minds with Unique Papercraft Design

Renowned designer Katsumi Tamura has reimagined the traditional calendar with his innovative Park Calendar 2016. Inspired by the tranquility of European parks, this unique design offers a touch of nature to urban spaces, providing a sense of comfort and healing to its users.

Katsumi Tamura's Park Calendar stands out for its simplicity and elegance. The papercraft kit is easy to assemble, requiring no glue or scissors. Users can create a mini park scene complete with a bicycle, bench, and animals, each piece serving as a two-month calendar. The design is not just functional but also serves as a decorative piece, transforming spaces and enriching the user's environment.

The Park Calendar's unique properties lie in its ability to modify space and transform the minds of its users. As Tamura explains, "Quality designs have the power to modify space and transform the minds of its users. They offer comfort of seeing, holding and using. They are imbued with lightness and an element of surprise, enriching space." This philosophy is reflected in the Park Calendar, which brings a touch of nature's comfort into urban spaces.

The Park Calendar is a testament to Japan's high-level printing and manufacturing technologies. The original pure white cardboard is produced in Japan, with parts fasten points reduced to the minimum for design excellence. The calendar's technical specifications are 210mm (H) x 297mm (W) (sheet size), making it a compact yet impactful addition to any space.

The Park Calendar was launched in July 2015 and has since received numerous accolades for its innovative design. It was awarded the Platinum A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award in 2016, recognizing its world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative design that contributes to societal wellbeing. The award is given to designs that define the aesthetics of an era, advancing the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology.

With the Park Calendar, Katsumi Tamura and his design team, including Takahiro Sugawara and Toshiyuki Nagamatsu, have truly redefined the concept of calendars. This design is not just a tool to keep track of dates but a piece of art that brings a sense of tranquility and comfort to its users, embodying the concept of "Life with Design."
